Alexandra “Sasha” Scamarone, L.Ac.

Alexandra “Sasha” Scamarone is a board-certified acupuncturist licensed in the state of Oregon. Sasha spent her early days in North Carolina, where she ran cross-country and track in high school and later took up yoga, biking and salsa dancing. Physical activity has always brought her great joy and she is passionate about helping people regain and optimize their function and health with acupuncture and other Chinese medicine therapies.

Sasha completed a Masters of Science in Oriental Medicine at the National University of Natural Medicine in 2012, graduating with Honors in Research. She worked as a research assistant and coordinator at the Helfgott Research Institute, assisting with qualitative research design and analysis on the community acupuncture model and co-authoring two publications. In her clinical practice, she strives to integrate evidence-based acupuncture research with classical Chinese medicine therapies.

Sasha has been practicing as a licensed acupuncturist since 2013 and has treated patients in a variety of settings, including a one-year clinical rotation at the OHSU Richmond Family Medicine Clinic and a two-and-a-half-year post-graduate clinical internship, where she received mentorship from two senior acupuncturists from China. Sasha has also treated patients at an integrative urgent care clinic focused on injury rehabilitation and at a primary care clinic, working alongside primary care providers. She is a strong proponent of an integrative approach to healthcare and enjoys collaborating with Western medical providers for optimal patient care.

Sasha treated elite athletes, including former pro-NBA players, weekend warriors, as well as non-athletes, for over 3 years at Therapeutics Associates-Lake Oswego, where she ran her own clinic while working collaboratively with TAI’s integrative physical therapy team, with a strong focus on supporting patients’ rehabilitation from sports injuries and surgeries. She was fortunate to collaborate closely on patient care with Dr. Shawn Dailey, DPT, owner of TAI-Lake Oswego and community physical therapist for the Portland Trailblazers. Sasha has received post-graduate training in orthopedic acupuncture, a specialization which integrates Western orthopedics with traditional Chinese medicine therapies, to help athletes and active people rehabilitate more quickly and better from sports injuries, as well as enhancing athletic performance in athletes. She received acupuncture sports medicine training with Dr. Whitfield Reaves, DAOM, who is considered one of the pioneers in the development of orthopedic acupuncture.

Prior to becoming an acupuncturist, Sasha had an eight-year career in language education. She completed a B.A. in Romance Languages at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and an M.A. in French Language and Literature from the University of Iowa. Sasha taught in universities in Mexico, France and the United States, as well as at a local-area Waldorf high school. She worked on university curriculum design in language education and organized high school student trips to Oaxaca, Mexico and Costa Rica. She is fluent in Spanish and French. Outside of work, you will find her spending time in nature, cooking or salsa dancing with her husband and son.
